Linn County Voters May Fund Penick Building Office Move
Linn County voters will decide on November 7 whether to authorize up to 1.1 million dollars from federal revenue sharing to locate county offices at the Penick and Ford administration building. Supervisors indicated willingness to use that building though ballot wording omits a location. The measure, set last month to appear on the ballot, avoids property tax use and follows a citizens committee vote 8-5 in favor of Penick over a subcommittee recommendation.

County offices debate Memorial Building move in Cedar Rapids
County supervisors debated moving county offices from May’s Island to the Veterans Memorial Building or the Penick building. The committee voted 8-5 against a Memorial Building first option and 8-5 for the Penick site, then dissolved. Public input included petitions, with some signatures from county employees. Engle, Oxley, Faches, Schriner, Redford, and Kopel led the discussion amid a $1.1 million budget constraint and a possible 99 year lease at $1 per year if costs are shared.
