Goss shoots estranged wife in Durant school classroom

Goss shot his estranged wife, a second grade teacher in Durant, while under a court order. He then shot himself in the head. both were 68. Goss has been imprisoned at Fort Madison since May 4, 1962. The text notes Mary Lou Carstons, with a 1969 Cerro slaying, had a sentence commuted.

Lipizzan show plans stay same despite disclaimer

Lipizzan promoters agreed to the disclaimer after a telephone talk this morning. The show is set for Friday through Sunday November 2 to 4. Lashinsky praised the Lipizzaner performance as entertaining and family oriented, contrasting it with the Spanish Riding School. The event is in Gordo County.

Fire claims mother and two children in Waterloo home

A two story Waterloo house on Broadway Street burned early today killing Sharon Paine, 23, and her sons Sean, 3, and Eric, 6 months. Father Billy Paine, 38, survived with burns and a serious arm cut and is hospitalized. Police and fire officials investigate possible cause linked to a cigarette lighter.

Independence The estate of Marjorie Fern Pierce of Winthrop seeks 225000 from Buchanan County and its Board of Supervisors after a fatal car train crash on August 9 near Winthrop.
