Colton challenges Cedar Rapids Police Association in dispute

Safety Commissioner Ed Colton, after a four day delay, urged the Cedar Rapids Policeman's Protective Association to back his charges or publicly disavow them. He said he will confront the group Monday and insisted he will not endure charges made behind his back. The CRPPA had accused Colton of dishonesty and interfering with investigations, citing morale damage in the department.

Iowa City man charged in campus rampage near Kinnick Stadium

A 22 year old Iowa City man, Anthony Ray Bryant of 806 East College Street, faced 12 charges after allegedly rampaging with a car near Kinnick Stadium. He struck Lt. Roland Campbell, attempted to hit other officers, then fled before being stopped. Campbell sustained a broken leg and facial injuries and remained hospitalized. Bryant faced charges including resisting arrest and reckless driving. campus security filed additional counts for leaving the scene and assault with intent to injure. The incident occurred around 4 20 p m after Iowa homecoming game with Ohio State attracting about 60 000 spectators.
