Senator Joseph T. Robinson told Franklin D. Roosevelt at Hyde Park that a Roosevelt Garner victory would produce landslide support and that Congress would likely legalize beer if elected. Robinson said prompt action in December was expected, with further steps possible after the new majority forms.
Joseph Brensen of Kansas City Missouri was held at the Cedar Rapids police station Saturday night as a possible suspect in the murder of Charles Pierce a 66 year old Jones county farmer shot Thursday night. Brensen aged 31 with light brown hair and a beard matching the killer description was turned over to Police Sergeant Jesse Clift by two men who found him near Cascade.
Sheriff Fraser ruled out John B Gray of Aledo Illinois as the Cascade Pierce farm slayer after long-distance talks with Illinois authorities. Investigators continued at the farm gathering clues and fingerprints from John Gooley with the theory the killer was a moron or maniac seen in the hay mow. Mrs Pierce provided a detailed description of the attacker after the shooting.
Lord Reading of Great Britain urged the American Bar Association to back British-American efforts for world peace during its convention in Washington. He defended Britain's India policy and predicted that international economic conferences offer the only path to solve current economic troubles.
Missouri authorities and residents debate a planned synthetic lion hunt after Denver Wright’s son Charles, 14, was allegedly abducted by game warden Frank Hequenbourg. The warden said he would detain the boy while Wright was persuaded to abandon the hunt. Sheriff Jackson vowed to investigate reports of the kidnapping.

Mrs Hanna Harris 30 and Rasmus Byers 27 were shot to death early Saturday. Authorities believe Byers a farm hand killed Harris and then killed himself after a quarrel at a Friday night dance. The killings occurred about 4 am at the E Ross farm south of Arnold. Lee Harris, husband of Hanna, was killed years ago in an airplane crash at Grand Island.
