Corn Dominates Fall Feed on Hursh Farm Near Marengo
The Farm Editor notes corn is the main cattle and hog ration on A. E. Hursh’s 160 acre farm south of Marengo in fall and early winter. Cattle gain about 300 pounds after a month on corn, following a year of grazing on grass and roughage. Hursh emphasizes efficient grass use with clover and timothy pasture, rotates stock every two weeks, and avoids overgrazing to ensure ample forage through varying seasons.

Larger lamb crop indicated for 1940
Developments in lamb feeding through October 1 show a larger total to be fed in 1939 40 than 1938 39 with corn belt stocks rising while western states fall. Large July September feeder shipments to the corn belt and record stockyard inspections signal a strong year, though western declines and little winter pasture may redirect lambs to feed lots.
