In Galax Virginia a 24 hour search for 10 year old Guido Vaughn ended when he was found asleep in his own bed at home. He had slipped back into the house unnoticed after a reprimand for a minor misdeed. Bloodhounds and neighbors assisted in the search. The boy was unharmed.
Charles Patman, 66, route No. 1, suffered a fractured left leg after being struck by a car driven by Harry Mote, 17, as he walked on the north side of O avenue near Ellis boulevard. Patman was taken to St Luke’s Hospital and then to an Iowa City hospital. Mote told police he thought he hit a mailbox and later found Patman injured when he returned to the scene.
Wall Street sources report Britain intends to spend up to 3 billion dollars to establish in Canada a vast wartime industrial system. The project aims to supply Britain’s needs for a long war, with financing by British loans and profits over years. Canada could become a key military sphere and postwar trade asset.

Wilbur Williams, 41, Tulsa, was jailed after patrolman Bill Remington stopped him at 8:15 p.m. on Third Avenue for five people in the front seat and driving on the left of the yellow line. A judge set a $30 cash bond which Williams failed to post. Police report the five passengers had been drinking but were not drunk. A state charge of overcrowded front seat was filed by Highway Patrolman Gilroy. Williams claimed Cedar Rapids residence and Johnson County license.
