Washington Man Chosen President of Baptist Ministers
The Rev. M. C. Carstensen of Washington Iowa was chosen president of the Iowa Baptist Pastors conference at the Wednesday morning session in Newton. He will succeed the Rev. John D. Kern of Osage after the conference. The convention runs tonight through Friday afternoon with sessions at First Baptist church. The Rev. C. J. Spieker of Northwood was named vice president and the Rev. Clyde Demmel of Hillsboro secretary. Kern urged loyal, courageous leadership to keep disloyal clergy out of loyal churches and warned of a coming period of confusion. He said nine Iowa pastors have led churches to sever relations with the Iowa Baptist convention and three more seek breakaway. He did not name the nine publicly. Dr. R. G. Schell of Chicago predicted a revival following a recent low mood, tying it to a coming Renaissance.

Kansas Schools Pride Dud of False Attacks on Education
A Kansas writer defends state schools against Democratic claims that 400 schools closed and 8,000 students lost schooling. He cites consolidation due to good roads and western Dust Bowl migration, notes only three of 8,607 closures were for finances, and praises Landon laws including cash basis budgeting and a teeth-filled budget law. He cites high high school attendance, top college graduation rates, and low illiteracy as proof of strong education, urging continued support regardless of election outcome.
