Appeal Board Backs Linn-Mar Budget Amid Criticism

The state appeal board reluctantly upheld Linn-Mar School District’s 1971-72 budget while sharply criticizing excessive use of executive sessions in shaping the 1970-71 and 1971-72 budgets. It urged the formation of an ad hoc committee to review budgets for 1971-72 and 1972-73 and noted preliminary figures show a tax levy about 172000 below the state maximum. The 1971-72 budget was 632615, and the board said Linn-Mar failed to reflect the district’s economic plight including the Collins recession and farm property reassessment.
