A Milwaukee hospital donor offers his own blood for transfusion to help the community chest campaign. The gesture follows a push in Cedar Rapids and critiques of tax and public funding politics across Iowa.
The Gazette reports two Iowa train wrecks within 24 hours were caused by broken rails. Coroner George Maresh and Rock Island railroad official F A Bogue ruled the early Friday wreck near Iowa City fatal, with two dead and suspicions of sabotage prompting broader inquiry into possible tampering with roadbeds. Madeline Roberts, 12, of Des Moines, was critically injured in the same incident.
A Rock Island passenger wreck near Downey Iowa left two trains derailed, six killed and more than twenty injured. Train 14 bound for Chicago derailed by a broken rail and was struck by westbound Train 23. a second fatal crash occurred near Guttenberg the previous day.
President Roosevelt signed an executive order cutting the cotton garment week to 36 hours starting Dec 1 and pledging strict NRA code enforcement. Wages stay the same but piecework pay would rise by about 10 percent, likely lifting consumer prices modestly. The measure covers about 150 000 to 200 000 workers and was delayed from Oct 1 while protests are investigated.

Berry V. Stoll leads deputies in a high speed chase after an automobile carrying a woman with a bandaged head. Sheriffs block highways in central and southern Kentucky following a Hodgenville inquiry. The suspects fled from Louisville the Stoll home as authorities pursue.
Mr and Mrs L Bostetter and their daughter Alice were jailed in Cresco Iowa on harboring criminals charges after Charles Pretty Boy Floyd was found on the Bostetter farm south of town. The discovery came Thursday afternoon as Floyd, a hunted southwest outlaw, eluded capture.
Federal state and county officers remained on high alert across northern Missouri after the outlaw Pretty Boy Floyd and two companions escaped capture. Sightings occurred near Mexico and near Moberly as a nationwide pursuit continued through the night and into the next day.
In Nevada at Welko city justice court Joe Segura was fined 50 dollars for riding a horse on city streets while intoxicated under an old drunk driving statute.

Four of the nine people hurt in the two train collision six miles east of here were discharged from a local hospital Friday night. Dorothy and Virginia Neff, ages 8 and 9, of Colona Illinois. Mrs Virginia Wellwood of New York. and H H Corey of Austin Minnesota were released. Madeline Roberts, 12, Des Moines mother fatally injured in the wreck, remained in serious condition with injuries, shock and lacerations.
In Jersey City a rope strangling case ends with police saying three younger boys, two aged 6 and one 4, admitted late Friday afternoon they were responsible for killing 7 year old John Feeney Jr whose body was found in a trunk in a squatters shack earlier Friday.
