Cedar Rapids fire safety posters winners celebrated
Nine third graders and their families toured Cedar Rapids Fire Department Central Station after an awards ceremony and pizza party. Winners include Olivia from All Saints School and Hannah, a former winner, with other students Micah McKinstry Dylan Cerka Weston Burdt Karlie Keeney Tristan Loux Garrett Carlson Rebecca Rezac and Kelton Rice from Wright home school. National Fire Prevention Week ran October 3 to 7 with the theme Test Your Smoke Alarm and monthly battery checks urged.

Linn County District Court records show multiple pleas and sentences. Lydell Matthews pleaded guilty to delivering crack cocaine, fined 1000 dollars and up to 10 years. Tony Westmoreland admitted to drug charges, fined 750 dollars each and up to five years. Anita Duke received a 10-year suspended sentence and probation. Anthony Hartgrave deferred judgment and placed on probation. Brookshire pleaded guilty to a lesser domestic abuse charge with 360 days jail, mostly suspended, plus probation and residential supervision. Gibbs pleaded guilty to assault with a dangerous weapon.
