Extended forecast calls for a chance of rain from Sunday through Tuesday. Highs near 70 Sunday, dropping to the 60s by Tuesday. Lows range from mid 40s to around 50 Sunday, cooling to the 30s and low 40s by Tuesday. readings show minor changes at several stations including LaCrosse 5.2 and Lansing 7.7 rising 0.1, others steady or up modestly.

Authorities seized 14 guns Thursday afternoon after a search warrant at 38 Forty-first avenue SW. Merlin Buck Bean, 44, was arrested on a warrant for receiving and concealing stolen property and released on a $5,000 bond. Deputies and Iowa BCI officers recovered hand guns rifles and shotguns now in BCI custody. Warrants followed an extensive investigation.

Persons convicted of stealing pens chained to desks in most U S post offices may be fined up to 500 dollars and jailed for as long as one year.
The Kremlin condemns Andrei Sakharov as an anti patriot and deems the Nobel Peace Prize to be a political ploy. Tass notes the award’s political use while Sakharov presses for permission to travel to Oslo in December to receive the prize. He says Soviet authorities know of his travel wish and will inform him if allowed. Tass accuses him of abandoning science for manifestos and claims he favors ultra reactionary American positions. It also accuses him of supporting the Chilean regime’s repression where tens of thousands died.
A rape charge against Dale F. Bowman was dismissed in district court after a unavailable state witness, then refiled by the county attorney. Bowman remained jailed briefly on intoxication and bond was set at 10000 dollars. Hearings on bond reduction and admissibility of a police statement are set for next Wednesday with trial scheduled for December 8. Harold Denton noted refiling in a felony case does not constitute double jeopardy.
Norris Aschem of 520 Fourth Street SW was fined $50 and costs after pleading guilty to larceny for taking less than $20 in cash from Lillian Nuneswander on October 6 in magistrate's court.
