Crandic to File Brief at ICC on Bridge Rates Battle

Cedar Rapids and Iowa City rail line plans to file a brief with the Interstate Commerce Commission in response to Western Trunk Line petitions seeking abolition of bridge rates and routes via short lines. The Crandic says its intermediate carrier service is demanded by local industries and short routes save nearly 25 miles in distance. The petition argues trunk lines seek to cancel routes for revenue, while Crandic notes an average of 11 freight trains daily and urges preservation of intermediate service against unwarranted rate suspensions.
