Mercy hospital reports a son for Mr. and Mrs. Joseph L. Rohlena of Fairfax born Oct 10. Mr. and Mrs. Earl St. John of Stanwood welcome a son born Oct 11. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Nugent of 830 Twenty-first Avenue SW announce a daughter born Oct 32.
Mrs. Hannah Josephine Berry aged 74 of Bertram township died at 11 15 p m Tuesday at her daughter Mrs M A Fawcett s home 368 Eighteenth Street SE John Howard Leonard two months old son of Mr and Mrs Donald M Leonard of 205 Fourteenth Street SE died Wednesday at home. both notices list residence and next of kin.
Norma Doupnik suing for divorce from Joseph Doupnik Jr. via Judge John T. Moffit on cruel and inhuman treatment. Court awards custody of infant son, support, alimony, and title to household goods. Marriage occurred in Geneva Illinois on April 3 1937.
Rawson Behel aged 21 of 512 Seventh Street SE was sentenced by Justice Churchill to 15 days in the county jail after pleading guilty to theft of gasoline.
Thomas W. Frost of Minneapolis was fined $10 plus costs for speeding. The citation notes a 48 mph speed in a city area and includes standard court costs.
Coroner jury reviewed Maricle case and heard accounts from Mrs. Maricle Vlad and Stanley. They questioned if the backshot could be self-inflicted and noted a missing bullet from a .38 revolver exhibit. The jury left an open verdict and called for further county attorney led investigation.

The Iowa branch of the International Order of The Kings Daughters and Sons will erect a memorial cabin at the girls camp at Bluff Park Montrose in memory of Dr. Jennie McCowen of Davenport who organized Iowa’s first circle in 1886. The Dr. Jennie McCowen chapter will raise funds over two years with part from a $141 balance. The memorial was proposed by Mrs. J W Mansfield at Westminster Church after the Iowa branch opened its 44th annual convention.

Assistant Chief of Detectives Paul Castel and Detective Charles Antrim left Des Moines for Arizona to bring William E. Slim Cooper 22 back for prosecution in the July 27 slaying of Harold J. Dreher. Extradition proceedings were under way with slim hope of success.

Dolson now holds Poland and Czechoslovakia stamps for anticipated higher value. Recent sales included stamps bought for 20 cents priced at 1 dollar.
The War Department ordered 65 000 Garand M 1 semi automatic rifles at 8 7 million dollars to arm 168 000 infantrymen in twenty months. Officials praise its speed and deadliness compared with the 1903 Springfield, enabling eight shots per clip before reloading.
Four members of a Cedar Rapids orchestra were injured in a 2:15 a.m. collision at an Illinois Central freight crossing in Ryan. A car driven by 15 year old Bob Crosby struck a 14 foot ladder set by Irwin Truesdall 41 as he worked on a new street light in Prairieburg Tuesday evening. Truesdall sustained a fractured right leg and was taken to St Luke's hospital. Crosby and three female passengers were not mentioned as injured.

An apartment blast from a leaking hot plate burner killed brothers John Robaski 24 and Joseph Robaski 19 in Pittsburgh. Mother Rose Robaski 22 and her 15 day old son John Matthew were seriously injured.
Miss Ella Gimmestad of St. Louis told Iowa Red Cross nurses that the nursing service must grow. She noted the first reserve includes 18,000 registered nurses with 700 in Iowa and set a goal of 25,000 in the reserve. The reserve increased from 15,000 to 18,000 over the past year.
