A large Midwest storm drenched Iowa with one inch to 1.25 inches of rain and gusty southeast winds. Average home price up 6 percent in second quarter

The Census Bureau reports the average price of a new single family home rose 6 percent to 54 700 for April to June, the largest quarterly jump in four years. The price index reached 158 3 on a 1972 base of 100, with starts at over 2 million units annually. Builders warn shortages and high costs may slow demand.
