Three killed and several injured in a crash north of Cedar Rapids involving two eastbound cars and a northbound freight train near county home road and highway 150. Dead and injured taken to St Luke's hospital as investigators examine the crossing and wreck aftermath.
State troopers clash with Linn County Attorney over plea bargaining on drunk driving and speeding charges. Sgt. James Lind accuses the practice of lowering penalties, while County Atty. President Nixon said in a radio broadcast that if voters grant him a second term he will strive to prevent tax increases. He urged Congress to accept his spending ceiling as protection against higher taxes while McGovern accused him of misleading the public and warned of continued deficits.
