Squaw Creek dispute pits birds against Linn County lake plan
Iowa birdwatchers urge the Iowa Conservation Commission to block a 127 acre lake at Squaw Creek Park near Cedar Rapids. They warn habitat loss endangers 60 nesting species and up to 150 observed birds, while county officials defend the lake as needed recreation and advocate completing Lakeshore Drive. The commission delays ruling to study environmental impact and flora and fauna elements before any construction proceeds.
