Chicago report shows hog trading turning active on Wednesday with gains of 25 to 50 cents per hundredweight for butchers and 50 to 75 cents for sows. Cattle receipts near 9,000 with slaughter cattle mostly steady to 50 cents lower. lambs and ewes bid about 50 cents lower.
Sioux City cattle and hog markets showed slow demand with mixed bids. Calves and feeding stock sold irregularly while hogs posted modest gains with top prices around 24 dollars for 200 to 230 pound hogs and lighter weights selling higher on some lots.
