Dr Willard H Dow of Ethyl Dow Chemical announced the first actual recovery of gold and silver from seawater near Wilmington North Carolina. A tiny one tenth milligram nugget, half gold half silver, came from twelve tons of seawater processed with colloidal sulfur.
Early referendum results from seven counties show only one vote in favor of the AAA corn-hog program with about half of eligible voters participating. Teams and breed placings spanned Holsteins Guernseys Jerseys Ayrshires and Brown Swiss with multiple state reps and top placements.
Des Moines police file preliminary information charging Joseph F. Robineau with attempted bribery of a state official. He was arraigned at noon before Judge Russell Jordan with attorney James Devitt and pled not guilty. Bond set at $1,000. case will go to Polk County district court after grand jury action.
Joseph F. Robineau of Chicago was arrested on charges of offering a five percent bribe to Iowa State Board member Harry White to secure a penitentiary furniture contract. The case stems from a hotel room sting in Des Moines aided by state officials and recorded by microphones.
Special to The Gazette Monticello Castle Grove area farmer Jack Demsey aged 50 died when his car overturned several times on primary 113 about five miles north of Monticello and half a mile south of Castle Grove The crash occurred around 4 pm Friday after losing control on loose gravel He was thrown from the vehicle Sheriff Harry Utley and Coroner John May were called and the body was taken to Monticello Demsey leaves a large family.

Special to The Gazette Waterloo reports a twenty five year rise in butterfat production per cow with lower costs and improved feeding breeding and management. The 54 associations covered 1 170 herds ending Sept 1 showed average butterfat per cow at 325 pounds the highest in association history and 175 pounds above Iowa cow average. Dysart's Elmer Santman led with 642.3 pounds per cow. 1 104 pure bred sires were used in 1 170 herds. Benton County Cow Testing No 1 won a silver plaque again.
Secretary Henry A. Wallace warns corn-hog farmers not to abandon the AAA program as controlled production could push next year’s corn supply high and prices to ten cents a bushel. He notes current prices around 70 cents and calls for a gradual market rise assisted by export increases, urging turnout at 15,000 community meetings for the referendum.
