A 7,000 strong crowd at the Kraschel Patterson debate saw 90 votes for Kraschel and 40 for Patterson in a controversial International News Service straw poll. Kraschel drew loud support when Patterson showed Gov Herring’s picture, with Patterson facing boos over alleged campaign costs.
Cedar Rapids police report eight more break ins early Thursday with five on the west side and one on the east. A man entered Mrs Zella Marling’s 858 Second Ave SE vestibule at 5 30 AM claiming to mistake the party, then robbed Mrs Mabel Ryan of a $4 coin purse. Mrs Blanche Williams and Mrs Sarah McConkey were surprised by the prowler in their apartment before he fled. Police finally have a description: about five eight, 170 pounds, tan cap, white shirt, tan suit, slow husky voice. weitere incidents occurred on the west side at 1316 First Ave home of Martin Rinderknecht where no items were missing after a basement window entry. Miss Elsie Rinderknecht startled him and he exited through the basement door. Police widened the search after a second break in at 1330 Burch NW. Continued on page 12.
Federal agents joined Stratford police in locating ten cans of poundl a highly powerful explosive stolen from Remington U M C park Monday night. The tiny pen green containers are extremely sensitive officials said and could blow up half a city. A warning urged anyone finding a can to avoid touching it and contact police or Remington experts.
Senator Robert M. La Follette told the National Dairy Cattle Congress in Waterloo that America's economic crisis will persist until wealth is more equally distributed. He cited farmers selling at a loss and workers earning insufficient wages and urged a realignment of politics to unite progressives and liberals to lift the nation from economic despair.

Patterson attacked the tax system and argued Iowa would not gain from relief money tied to federal policies while Kraschel defended Democratic lines and outlined state levies and expenditures in a fifty minute closing speech.

Albert J. Hotz of Iowa City filed for an annulment claiming no knowledge of his Septem ber 13 marriage to Vera Weaver Hotz. He cites a nervous system idiosyncrasy and aphasia from drugs and says he discovered the marriage only after awakening September 18.
Four men pled not guilty before U S Commissioner Arthur R Felsen after being charged with possessing counterfeiting moulds. Wesley A Smith 19 of Marqueton Ohio Frank Mayer 20 Milwaukee Dee Forest Adams 25 Keokuk Jr and Joseph Hawkins East St Louis were held on 5000 bond.
J W Hurley state drug inspector led raids at fourteen Cedar Rapids outlets including gas stations cigar stores a loan agency and a lunchette after purchasing contraceptive merchandise at many sites It triggers a statewide drive targeting non physician dealer sales and warns managers they will be summoned for prosecution with possible fines up to 1000 and one year in jail.
