Iowa DOT studies new license plates as old silos and skylines fade
Iowa officials say the 13 year old silos and skylines plate has worn out its day. The DOT plans a rolling reissue with input from Iowa Prison Industries and other states, aiming to limit budget impact and inventory waste while keeping county identifiers. There are over 4.1 million Iowa plates in circulation and specialty plates number in tens of thousands across groups. The process could start after 2012, with careful scheduling to avoid mass replacement.

Iowa to use incentives to cut farm runoff
Iowa Secretary Bill Northey says incentives rather than regulation will drive nutrient reductions from farms. ISU scientists will study data to map actions and costs for a 45 percent phosphorus and nitrogen cut, part of a Gulf of Mexico hypoxia plan. The effort targets regional variation and should finish by mid-2011, funded by state fees and seeking future farm bill support.
