Supervisors weigh land sale for teen group home
Linn County Supervisors consider selling about 20 acres of the former county farm to Alternative Services to Youth & Families to build a teen group home. The land east of Highway 13 would require lease adjustments and rezoning, with a public hearing and bids needed before sale. Buntz notes the Cedar Rapids group homes are full and cites highway access as a factor.

Bus Department Uses Telemarketing to Boost Ridership
Cedar Rapids and Marion residents will hear a 20 second recorded message promoting bus use. The system dials about 900 numbers daily from 9 am to 9 pm and will be expanded after initial testing. The project cost 2300 dollars funded by a 5000 dollar marketing budget with a state grant covering part. Transit Director Bill Hoekstra says ridership rose slightly and calls are non intrusive. Local resident Dick Langton found the spot brief and to the point though impersonal. Hoekstra plans to record a new message once all numbers are dialed and keep the program as a permanent feature.
