Brecht, 47, of 2429 33rd Ave SW, says exotic pets add spice. Three rheas escaped from his pen Sunday and were later captured near his Cedar Rapids yard. He retrieved the birds from the animal shelter Monday. Rheas are flightless, South American birds that grow to about six feet.
