Daisy V. Williams former Iowa Farm Bureau secretary will marry Charles F. Long cashier of Union Whitten State Savings bank Monday at the Little Brown church near Nashua. Williams was the first woman named to a state Farm Bureau secretaryship and later directed farm women for the Republican Party. She is the daughter of Mr and Mrs John L Williams of Union.
Mearle Vermuele nine of Council Bluffs died en route to a hospital after being hurled from an automobile against a telephone pole. The father swerved into a ditch to avoid a head on collision on a highway about one mile west of Lanesboro Iowa.
Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain prepared to go to the country this month if a cabinet split or Labor opposition attacks the Munich accord threaten his four power peace policy. Duff Cooper resigned after dissent, praising the premier’s peace efforts as Chamberlain refused royal honors.
Robert K Henry withdraws from Wisconsin governor race leaving Julius P Heil as the sole Republican challenger to Gov. Philip F La Follette. Recognition of the CIO Packing House Workers Organizing committee as the sole collective bargaining agency for Armour and Company employees in 31 plants nationwide has been refused. C Ashley, general manager at the East St Louis plant, stated the decision Saturday.
Army officers disclosed plans to privately manufacture 25 to 30 million civilian gas masks for the 15 most populous coast and interior cities to defend against gas raids in wartime. Masks would retail 150 to 5 dollars, with distribution via commercial channels or free government distribution if Congress acts. tests show strong resistance to known gases.
