Special to The Gazette. In Manchester on West Main street a steam hoist toppled from a 25 foot span, sending workers into the Maquoketa river. Lester Minkler died from a fractured skull and broken leg. Five others Carl Johnson Des Moines Conrad Leo Des Moines Vernon Moss Manchester Frank Pierce Manchester Maurice Hubler Manchester were injured. Hubler narrowly escaped death gripping a steel girder. The men were recovering at a local hospital. Minkler was born January 22 1904 and survived by his wife Vanita and five children.
