Explosions kill six Kansas City firefighters at ruined site

Six firefighters died and a seventh was injured in two powerful blasts at a construction site near U S 71 as they fought flames before dawn. Winter storm coats northern Iowa with heavy snow

A winter storm dumped up to seven inches across northern Iowa while southern areas saw little. By 6 50 p m the heaviest snow had moved into Wisconsin as five to eight inches were reported in multiple counties including Winneshiek and Clayton. Waukon saw seven to eight inches with Mason City and Denver at six inches and Waterloo at three. Ditches and fender benders occurred amid drifting winds. Delaware and Dubuque counties reported little precipitation.
