Sunlight Ties Strong Exposure to Cataract Risk

Johns Hopkins researchers studied 838 Chesapeake Bay fishermen and found that heavy ultraviolet exposure triples the risk of cortical cataracts while hats and sunglasses largely prevent it. The study links ultraviolet radiation to cortical but not nuclear cataracts, with posterior subcapsular cases too rare to judge.
