Vilsack deflects personal blame for prison escape
Gov. Tom Vilsack said he bears no personal responsibility for a recent escape at the Iowa State Penitentiary. He attributed the incident to employees not doing their jobs rather than budget cuts or policies. An Iowa Attorney General spokesman noted state actions to address the matter.

ISU Veishea to permit drinking under standard policy
Iowa State University will apply its standard alcohol policy to Veishea 2006 allowing participants to drink but restricting public campus areas. The relaxation ends the 1991 to 2004 ban that covered all campus grounds including dorms and eateries. Past riots in 1989 1992 1994 and 2004 and a fatal stabbing in 1997 marked the event. Last year rioting caused 250000 dollars in downtown Ames with 37 arrests.
