Four injured in city weekend crashes include 6 year old

A weekend traffic spree left four injured including six year old Steven Sherzer who was hospitalized with a broken elbow after a two car crash at First Avenue and Fifteenth Street SE. His mother Maria 33 and sister Angela 8 were treated and released.

Thief Has Sweet Tooth Reported Inbreaks

Karen Johnson of Springville reported a forcible entry at her home between last Tuesday and Thursday, with $9 in candy and speakers valued at $100 stolen. A trailer south of Toddville was entered Friday, a $490 television belonging to Lawrence Meyer was stolen, along with other items valued at $94. Norman Wachal of rural Walker reported an unoccupied house break in, with an old stove and table and chairs taken.

Teen Driver Charged With Drunk Driving After High Speed Stop

Mark Jacobs, 18, of 1111 Thirtieth Street Drive SE, was charged with drunk driving at 2:03 a.m. Sunday after officers stopped him near Linn Boulevard and Liberty Drive SE. He allegedly passed another car at a high rate of speed before the stop.

Bank Chairman Pochobradsky Dies at 78 in Cedar Rapids

Longtime Cedar Rapids leader Louie J. Pochobradsky, 78, died after a brief illness. He chaired United State Bank since its founding in 1922 and served on the Cedar Rapids school board. Surviving are his wife Ella Zurka, daughter Joanne in San Francisco, and sister Mrs. George Kofron. Funeral services will be held at Janeba-Kuba, with burial in Czech National. Several fraternal memberships are noted.
