Iowa City weighs height bonus for 15 story student housing tower near UI

CG Hanson proposes a 162000 square foot mixed use tower at 316 Madison St with 154 units and 248 bedrooms aimed at students faculty and staff. The plan seeks a five story height increase plus two extra floors for LEED Gold and leadership in energy and environmental design. City staff say criteria include design review management and security plan, plus LEED Gold verification. Taxes would start over 425000 yearly versus 146000 for a five story building. The council meets Tuesday to discuss this Riverfront Crossings District project and Linn Court Street site proposals.

IOWA CITY weighs 1.8M TIF for Riverside Drive apartment project

City officials back 1.8 million tax increment financing to Emrico Properties for a 96 unit four story Riverside Drive complex on Hartwig Motors site. The $16.1 million project includes studio to two bedroom units 12 workforce units 71 parking spaces and solar panels with a pedestrian tunnel easements.
