Iowa unemployment rate edges down in October
Iowa Job Service reports October unemployment at 4.1 percent, down from 4.2 in September but above 4.0 a year ago. Unemployed residents declined to 57,300 from 57,900, as total employment rose 1,340,600 led by gains in nonfarm and agricultural jobs. Manufacturing added 800. durable goods rose with recalls in farm machinery, while nondurable goods fell due to a grain mill dispute. Nonmanufacturing employment totaled 866,600, up 8,700 from September but 900 below last year.

Iowa economic indexes rise in October with leading indicators up 0.2 percent driven by a 3.6 percent rise in manufacturing overtime hours and a 1.1 percent stock-price gain.
