Former Police Chief and Reserve Officer Seek Age Bias redress

PARKERSBURG AP The city faces lawsuits from former police chief Dave Elverum 56 and former reserve officer Elroy Diekman 59 alleging age discrimination after their demotion and firing. The city contends Diekman was dismissed due to an Iowa Law Enforcement Academy letter outlining improper scheduling and ineligibility for retirement benefits. The letter noted Diekman had served as a regular officer and worked shifts, conflicting with reserve status under Iowa law. Penny Westfall, academy director, confirms the scheduling concerns.
