City officials meet at 10 jam Tuesday to plan moving Cedar Rapids police and traffic court from the police station to City Hall. Participants include Police Chief Kudina, Safety Commissioner Prochaska, Judge Mattias, City Attorney Garberison, Assistant City Attorney Smith, and Deputy City Clerk Wage. Details address practical changeover and note city hall courtroom on the fourth floor could house the court, while the police station would need the present courtroom for a records room.
Cedar Rapids City Council can use up to $20,000 from each of two funds for new equipment, totaling $40,000. The couple married February in Richmond, Va, and the dispute notes age discrepancies and a prior life in New York as an actress and model. Justice Kenneth O'Brien granted $125 weekly temporary alimony.
Mike Zulakias, 66, pled guilty to lascivious acts with a child and was fined 500 dollars plus costs. Herbert H. Smith, 51, pleaded innocent as jurors began selection for his trial. Judge Charles Penningroth had Zulakias indicted by the September grand jury and later kept the court role for Smith on August 23.
John Russell Brody aged 37 of 623 Sixth Street SE pled guilty to drunk driving on Monday and was fined 300 dollars plus costs by Judge Floyd Philbrick. The will of Joseph Holec who died November 13 has been admitted to probate. A son, Joseph Holec Jr., was named sole heir and confirmed as executor without bond.
Cedar Rapids city council approved an emergency repair project for the sewage disposal plant. City Engineer Frank Young will seek bids to install two floating covers on digester tanks at an estimated cost near 35000 dollars. A temporary fund transfer from street construction to the sewer rental fund was authorized to proceed without delay.
Police rushed to the freight yards after a tip about a man murdered and dismembered in a boxcar. They found only the artificial leg of 40 year old Howard Finley of Cincinnati, which had fallen off during a ride.

A Glenwood rural school near-hanging incident was dismissed by 20-year-old teacher Earl Hatcher as rough play. Mills county superintendent Miss Amy Hammers scheduled a Tuesday meeting with ten parents at the courthouse to discuss the matter and seek clarity. Ten-year-old Jack Warren said older boys looped a rope around his neck and pulled it to the doorknob, causing a rope burn. Hatcher called it harmless play and blamed earlier outdoor cowboy play for the rope burn.
Frank E. Me Cedar, Rapids city engineer, will speak at the November meeting of the Retired Men's bureau of the Cedar Rapids Chamber of Commerce. He will discuss sewage facilities for new city areas. The 4 p.m. talk follows a 2 to 4 p.m. recreation period in the Chamber of Commerce building.
An unidentified 1950 Cadillac on its top in Saturday’s Gazette is reported to belong to Mike Kelly of Los Angeles. He suffered only minor bruises in the mishap while the car was towed and transported to California afterward.
Arthur Brague 4001 First Avenue SE dies after shoveling snow near 1121 First Avenue. Coroner says heart attack. Survived by wife Anna Tilson, five daughters, son Richard, three brothers, four grandchildren. Services to be held at St Matthew's Church. turnout announced later.
Lonnie K Wasson widow of Frank Wasson longtime city editor of The Ga Si died Sunday in Lake Worth. She lived at 410 Eighth St SE for 35 years and had wintered in Florida recently. Surviving are two sons F Earl Wasson Tulsa hotel owner and Lionel theater manager Sheldon IA. Funeral at Trimble hotel Tulsa 4 p.m. Thursday with Mr Wasson’s ashes to be interred in Tulsa.

Cedar Rapids resident Mrs Eva Loretta Hakes died in a local nursing home at 9 10 p m Sunday after a long illness. Born June 15 1888 in Charles City she had lived in Cedar Rapids 26 years coming from Waterloo. Surviving are daughter Zona Rudish Cedar Rapids son Basil Bartlett Oakland California sister Alma Ingersoll Waverly three brothers Percy Greene Rock Falls St Gordon Greene Osage James Greene Penbine Wis and seven grandchildren. Services will be held 10 30 a m Wednesday at Turner chapel with Elder Edwin J Neckville Seventh Day Adventist Church burial in Waterloo. Friends may call at the chapel.
Mrs Louise Fineman Pokorny, 40, former Cedar Rapids resident, died at her Glidden home after a long illness. Born in Kendalville Indiana, she was married March 8 1940 in Ely to Frank P Pokorny who survives. Also surviving is her brother William Fineman of Kendalville. Graveside services will be held at the Bohemian Moravian Brethren cemetery near Ely at 11 am with Rev Zdenek F Pauk and Rev Milo Filipi officiating. The body will arrive in Cedar Rapids Thursday and friends may call at Barta Hesser chapel until 10 am.
Mrs F Sedlacek of 1809 Williams Boulevards received word that her uncle Edward Allien Westcott 63 died suddenly of a heart attack in Grand Rapids Michigan Friday. A former Cedar Rapids resident he is survived by his wife and other relatives who were visiting over the weekend.
A longtime Detroit associate of the Fox Film Corporation, who recently retired, is survived by a daughter in California and a son in Minneapolis. Funeral services and burial were planned for Tuesday in Grand.

Surviving are parents two brothers Thomas and Elmer two sisters Ellen Marie and Georgina Rose grandparents Mr and Mrs William Joyner and Mr and Mrs John Brague all of Cedar Rapids and great grand mother Mrs Ellen Sparkino of Rockford Ill Private cremation services were planned in Beatty chapel at 4 p m Monday.
Orlando Howard Miskimen of 312 Twenty-third street North east Cedar Rapids died in a Cedar Rapids hospital at 3 30 p m Sunday after a brief illness. Born July 4 1863 in Shellsburg he came to Cedar Rapids from Tipton. Surviving are two daughters Mrs Helen Schmied and Mrs Carl Cathcart. two sons Howard D and Harold F. a brother Charles. eight grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Services at Turner chapel at 1 30 p m Wednesday with Rev Harold Wood. Burial in Linwood cemetery.
Harold G. Pitts aged 54 of 416 Twelfth Street SE died at 8 50 a m Monday in Spencer after a brief illness. The body will be brought to the Brady mortuary with funeral arrangements to be announced. Born in Cedar Rapids on September 29 1897 he had been employed in Spencer.
Duncan Low died Saturday at Norwegian American hospital in Chicago at 63. Survived by his wife Gertrude and son Duncan Jr. of Boston and sister Mrs. Al Malloy of Amarillo Texas.
Jack McKinnis aged 72 of 4621 Mt. Vernon road SE died in a Cedar Rapids hospital at 2 a.m. Monday after a long illness. The body is at the Brady mortuary.

He defended his past duties as U S attorney and assistant attorney general, acknowledged complaints over two cases, and tied them to Beaty in an OPA matter. The committee and McGrath agreed to make justice department tax fraud files available for staff review.
Clydé Bogard, 40, Renwick tavernkeeper, is charged with two counts of first degree murder in the deaths of his parents, Elsie 63 and Howard 69. He pled innocent at arraignment before Judge G W Stillman and was moved to Anamosa reformatory for safekeeping. Bail denied. Post mortems showed Elsie beaten and Howard shot multiple times. coroner ruled no rational motive found.
Toledo AP report details a two car crash near a rural Michigan intersection that killed Ned Twining 45 Barbara 18 Vern Mc Laughlin ? and Howard Schumacher 43 plus his son Paul 10. Robert Twining 20 was en route to help a sister move when the fatal collision occurred after troopers watched the intersection for stop signs.
Meyer Dembin a 39 year old described as a notorious bank robber and one of the FBI's ten most wanted fugitives surrendered in New York after 16 years on the run. He walked into the U S Attorney's office with his lawyer Edward Scheidt and is suspected of robberies in Detroit Los Angeles San Francisco and El Paso. The FBI notes a 1935 Sparkill New York holdup ties the case.
Tokyo dispatch reports 35 Japanese war criminals to be paroled from Sugamo on December 16, raising total parolees to 471.
