A southeast Cedar Rapids man, Leo Marron, 56, was beaten by two intruders who broke into his apartment at 8:30 p.m. Monday and robbed him of $50. He was taken to Mercy hospital then Iowa City’s University hospitals with possible skull fracture and other injuries. condition listed as satisfactory Tuesday. Marron could not describe the attackers.
Attorneys for Richard S. Zacek filed a motion in municipal court Tuesday to inspect all evidence and statements in the first degree murder case. Judge Loren M. Hullinger Jr. had not ruled by noon as defense lawyers seek access to physical evidence for an adequate defense. Zacek was arrested Thursday for the Oct. 19 death of a Washington high school senior.

Mrs Emil Hurka 79 of 1030 Hill Drive SE Cedar Rapids died Monday after a long illness. Born March 12 1890 in Johnson County she lived in Cedar Rapids area all her life. Survived by daughter Mrs Donald L Harrelson Cedar Rapids granddaughter and four sisters. The Linn County Board of Health voted to enforce county sewage and water regulations in Robins on an individual basis, after town officials said municipal systems are unlikely in the next two years. Raymond Gerald Wisniewski pled innocent to an armed robbery charge in Linn district court. He is serving a 25 year sentence from a Feb 22 1968 robbery when the Iowa Supreme Court granted a new trial this month. Judge Ansel Chapman set bond at 25000 and he was jailed. The case involves a robbery at Louis Berry's near southeast side grocery.
