Gazette photographer discovers a roadside message in Don Lefebvre’s beanfield about a mile and a half northwest of the Cedar Rapids airport. The field bears the phrase Help Make Love Not War carved into the beans, revealed during an early Saturday morning visit.
Washington The Attorney General Mitchell urged George Romney to take another job in the administration amid tensions over HUD housing policy. A Romney spokesman denied the report as false though an administration official said Romney was upset by Mitchells remarks. The controversy centers on HUD plans to open suburban areas to central city poor and policy disagreements over desegregation and racial balance.
A church bulletin item quips that the Lord loves a cheerful giver and also accepts from a grouch. The brief joke mirrors familiar scripture style with light religious humor.
