Washington AP reports early use of mifepristone stirs skepticism among private doctors with many clinics preparing for pill abortions. Despite FDA approval and rollout to Planned Parenthood clinics, patients face a multi day process and ongoing preference for surgical abortion in many cases.
The RU-486 abortion pill will be offered in Eastern Iowa after January 1 mainly at the Emma Goldman Clinic in Iowa City. Costs are uncertain and higher than surgical abortions due to extra office visits and drug price. Planned Parenthood Cedar Rapids will not offer it. reasons include lack of abortion services and ultrasound facilities at others.
O Donnell suggested she may not renew The Rosie O Donnell Show after spring 2001 contract expiry. Speaking on Today to promote a McCalls tie in, she said she might not continue and expected an official announcement in January. Warner Brothers TV would welcome her continuation but respects life decisions.
