NEW YORK AP A proposed Bethlehem Steel Corp and Youngstown Sheet and Tube Co merger was rejected by U S District Court Judge Edward Weinfeld. The decision ruled the merger would violate the Clayton Act and lessen competition creating a potential monoply in the iron and steel industry. The suit claimed loss of independent supply and buyers. The judge warned of a chain reaction of mergers among large producers in the already concentrated steel field.
