4-H Junior Cattlemen Get Awards
Top feeders in the 1958 Eastern Iowa 4-H Junior Cattle Feeder Project received $100 scholarships at a Cedar Rapids banquet. Winners were Kenneth Beatty, Cedar Rapids Gary Edwards, Anamosa and Larry Meyer, Keystone. Ronnie Weih of Wilton Junction earned a gold watch for scoring 243 in the grading contest. Beatty also received a watch from WMT for best feeding, management and records. Project averages included final weight 1,055 pounds daily gain 1.91 pounds and net profit per steer about $49. The project, sponsored by Iowa State College Extension and Wilson and Company, wrapped with two marketing days. A Tama county banquet is set for December 10 at Dick’s restaurant in Toledo with Dr. George M. Browning as speaker.

Hill Warns Of Hog Price Drop At Iowa Farm Bureau
E Howard Hill, president of the Iowa Farm Bureau, warned at the Des Moines convention that a large corn acreage feed surplus could push hog prices sharply lower in late 1959. He urged farmers to vote and cautioned against expanding hog production while noting over two years of wheat on hand risked triggering a market collapse. He said some farmers may face losses if prices fall as predicted.

Linn Girls Win 4-H Delegates Honors in Congress
Barbara Rohlena and Joyce Anne Lamparek of Cedar Rapids were named as Linn County delegates to the National 4-H Club Congress in Chicago. Joyce won the state recreation leadership award and a pen and pencil set from the National Committee on Boys and Girls Club work. Both have eight years of 4-H membership and strong records in gardening canning meal planning clothing and demonstrations.

Neighbors harvest corn for Reinbeck area farmers
Thirteen neighbors gathered to harvest 80 acres of corn last week for Louis Heideman in Reinbeck. He was confined to an Iowa City hospital and unable to work. Members of the Reinbeck United Presbyterian Church also picked corn for Winner Bern who has been ill with a sleeping sickness for several weeks.
