Recycling shingles cut petroleum use in asphalt mix
In Iowa a landfill diverted 500 shingles in ten days of November as Shingling reuse aims to extend landfill life. RAS Suppliers LLC, a spin off of Eastern Iowa Construction, is among a few DOT approved recyclers turning shingles into asphalt. LL Pelling LLC uses ground up recycled shingles in road mixes for projects near Cedar Rapids and other cities. The higher cost of petroleum fuels the push to substitute recycled shingles in asphalt.
