Interstate 380 Progress Report Aids Cedar Rapids Westside

Cedar Rapids highway officials report about 90 percent of Interstate 380 property on the southwest side has been acquired. Demolition set for December through February, with the corridor from the Cedar River to Twenty eighth Avenue, and bridges at Eighth and Twenty seventh streets planned. Work on grading and paving from the Johnson county line to Seventy sixth Avenue SW is slated for letting next May, with right of way still pending between Seventy sixth and Twenty eighth avenues SW awaiting approval from the Bureau of Public Roads.

Apparent Cause of Fatal Blaze in Cedar Rapids

A 2 year old boy’s play with cigarette lighters is linked to a deadly Cedar Rapids fire that killed Mrs. Howard Moyle 17 and her two children Gerald Dean 2 and Dale 11 months. Investigators found a lighter in the charred Moyle residence at 1014 Tenth Street NE and a 11:27 am alarm preceded a fatal blaze with nine deaths in the year.

Mrs. Harry E. Garrison dies in Moline after Cedar Rapids life

Former Cedar Rapids resident Mrs. Harry E. Garrison who lived there from 1888 to 1925 died in Moline Illinois on Wednesday. She was educated and married in Cedar Rapids. Israeli Test Flight Crash Kills Three in West Bank

An Israeli made turboprop jet crashed during a test flight near Nablus in the occupied West Bank. Three people were killed including the chief test pilot of the company making the plane.
