Carter faces labor resistance over wage policy stance
The AFL-CIO accuses Carter of breaking his campaign promise by not meeting Meany to discuss the anti inflation plan, while officials say a personal talk was unnecessary. Federal Reserve Chair Miller foresees 6.75 to 7.5 percent price gains in early 1979, with 2.5 to 3 percent growth and unemployment around 5.75 to 6.25 percent. Alfred Kahn warns mandatory controls are unworkable and unpopular among the public.
