Gerald Heim, a sailor who fell at his battle station on December 7 1941, was laid to rest with full military honors at Linwood Cemetery. A crowd of about 5000 gathered in Cedar Rapids as taps, a final volley and a plane salute marked the funeral. Clair Stoneking a 35 year old farmer from near Mt Vernon sustained a skull fracture Saturday after being thrown from his tractor when a truck collided with it on highway 30 west of Mt Vernon He was taken to Mercy hospital in serious condition by Dr J R Gardner of Lisbon The truck owned by Concrete Materials and Construction Company Cedar Rapids was driven by D D Horton Witnesses said the tractor ran on after the impact and plunged into a ditch through a fence and into a field about 100 yards before stopping.

Car thief slugged teen girl then wrecked stolen car
Cedar Rapids police tracked a man suspected of stealing a car, slugging 16 year old Frances Cover, and driving the car into a tree before abandoning it. The girl was not seriously injured. The car, reported stolen from Merle Rosdail on Fourth Avenue NW between 7:30 and 7:40 p.m., was found wrecked at Eighth Avenue and Sixteenth Street SE about 9 p.m. with witnesses saying the driver ran east on Eighth.

Drunk driving charge after Cedar Rapids crash injures mother child
Gordon Kellogg, 42, of 1108 Sixth Street SE, was cited for drunken driving Saturday evening after a collision at Third avenue and Third street SE. A mother, Mrs. Earl Lamborn, 903 Fifth Street SE, and her 10 month old daughter Linda Lu were shaken and shocked but not hospitalized. Kellogg allegedly failed to stop for a signal, with Lamborn pursuing and forcing him to the curb on Third Street between Sixth and Seventh Avenues before police arrived.
