Volunteers Injured As Garage Collapse Strikes AmeriCorps Team
In Cedar Rapids on Saturday, eight AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps volunteers worked to tear down a detached garage at 1626 Eighth St NW when the structure shifted and collapsed onto the adjacent house. Two volunteers were trapped. A 60 year-old leader was pinned and later rushed to St Luke's Hospital in serious condition. Firefighters used air bags and cut through the roof to free him. Another volunteer, Sam Cooper, 24, from San Leandro, Calif., was extracted with injuries but declined treatment. Cooper was freed after drilling into the roof. The eight volunteers were part of the AmeriCorps program.

Buckeyes Rally In Overtime To Defeat Hawkeyes
Ohio State beat Iowa 27-24 in overtime at Ohio Stadium to clinch the Big Ten Rose Bowl berth. Iowa led 24-10 with 11:11 left but faltered late as Buckeyes surged. Fans and families greeted players afterwardwith cheers and hugs outside the locker room.
