Daily Record reports increasing cloudiness and colder tonight with a chance of occasional snow in the west. Lows range from 15 to 28 in the northeast and 10 to 28 in the southwest with highs in the mid to upper 40s. Rain and snow are forecast Thursday with mostly cloudy, cooler conditions Friday. Also noted are births, deaths, and local weather observations across several towns and airports.
Des Moines residents including 5000 school children lose bus service as a Street Railway Workers Union strike goes into effect. The union demanded health and retirement security for 217 drivers and 25 mechanics while Des Moines Transit Co. said it could not meet the terms. About 25000 daily riders are affected.
Seven new directors were elected to three year terms on the Chamber of Commerce board after the annual vote in a high turnout. Names include Henry S. Amasong Philip Bowen Howard H. Cherry Jr James E. Coquillette Louis Fellman W G Gates and William Bb Quarton. One member will be elected second vice president with presidency succession slated for 1962. election set for December 18.
London AP report says Fidel Castro assigned a Cuban air force captain to study the possibility of purchasing Soviet Mig jets in Czechoslovakia. Britain and the United States maintain embargoes on arms to the Caribbean until tensions ease. Castro warned he will seek stock elsewhere if not able to obtain arms.
Los Angeles AP report states William Ortiz hung himself in jail after another inmate looked on. Gloria Divera told police she did not intervene, saying the act was up to him.

Funeral services for Mrs W T Sands will be held at Beatty-Bearle's at 1 40 PM Thursday conducted by Rev N W Lovely of Peoples Church Burial at Linwood Friends may call at the chapel after 6 PM Wednesday.
In Independence the town and officials were alarmed by a late night fire whistle test. Police, sheriffs and residents flooded lines seeking the source as the alarm rang for an extended period. Fire Chief Paul Spenner admitted the whistles were functioning but warned no one of a dry run.
State police sent search parties into the Jemez mountains for three nurses reported unaccounted after a picnic. Friends say the women held responsible jobs and fear foul play. Missing: Jean Yelvington 21, Margaret Burke 35, Maxine Stevens about 25. They left Albuquerque around 10 a.m. Tuesday for a planned trip to Jemez Springs and were due back that evening.
