Carl Seiler a left handed husker from Knox county Illinois won the national corn husking title before about 40000 spectators at Galva Illinois husking 36914 bushels to set a national record. Walter Johansen Audubon county Iowa was runner up with 352 bushels after deductions. Others in top five were Clarence Maley Minnesota Ted Balko Minnesota and Kenneth House Nebraska. Seiler earned 100 in gold and dramatic field conditions marked by delays from equipment failures and heavy mud.
Des Moines AP reports the Iowa vote totals by precincts: President with Hoover 397,960 and Roosevelt 575,123 across 2,353 of 2,435 precincts. Senator totals show Field 383,739, Murphy 510,874, Brookhart 32,218 from 2,347 precincts reporting.
In Stockholm on Thursday Irving Langmuir of Schenectady New York chief of GE research lab received the Nobel Prize in chemistry for 1932. Earlier English novelist John Galsworthy was named the Nobel Prize in literature. The physics prize was not awarded this year or last year.
New York report lists thirty four U S senators elected Tuesday. Re-elected D leaders include Hugo Black Carl Hayden Hartie W Car away William Gibbs McAdoo Alva B Adams Duncan Fletcher Walter L George Richard B Russell Warren Barbour Robert F Wagner Willard Tydings Bennett C Clark Pat McCarron Fred H Brown Robert Wagner Nye Bulkley Elmer Thomas Fred Steiner James Davis Porter Dale Homer Bone and others.
Des Moines AP reports Iowa election totals by Thursday night with Governor Turner leading Republicans in some precints while Herring and Kraschel lead in others. Secretary of State Greenwalt and Attorney General Fletcher lead, with Greenwalt edging Miller in early returns.
President Hoover moved up his return to Washington from Palo Alto California planning to leave Friday night instead of Saturday to reach his White House desk no later than Wednesday morning. A secretary said no decision was made to confer with Franklin D Roosevelt.
In Los Angeles AP reports William Healy agreed to be tied to a post and pelted with two dozen eggs by Manuel Alonzo if President Hoover did not deliver a promised favor. Healy shouted I think I got a rotten deal as he sought a shower.
Democratic gains sweep Iowa toward a first all party control of state government as majorities grow in both chambers. Roosevelt leads Hoover with about 175000 votes. Murphy ahead of Field. Herring ahead of Turner. Kraschel winning lieutenant governor. Greenwalt trails by 11000 votes with count continuing.
In Des Moines the latest returns show Iowa likely sending six Democrats to the U S House and one Democratic senator Louis Murphy of Dubuque to the Senate, overturning a long Republican edge. Lloyd Thurston holds a narrow lead in the Fifth as county audits adjust totals, with other district results clarifying a contested outcome.
At precinct 2 in Cedar Rapids Democratic spokesman Maurice Cahill challenged Republican worker Mrs. J C Staley for checking voters by name at 1424 5 Avenue NE. Cahill said the action was illegal and Sheriff Petrus would arrest her, but no arrests were made. He claimed no rounds by him or Walter Hutchinson or Petrus occurred as reported.
Chicago mayor Anton J. Cermak tells brewers to start production as prohibition laxity grows. Speakeasies open, beer trucks move, and prices hover around a quarter per glass while agents prepare to shift duties. He predicts repeal soon and hints at a $5 a barrel tax later. City alderman John Coughlin proposes a $1000 license for saloons.

In Colorado and Kentucky totals and partial counts show Roosevelt and Hoover leading in several districts. Arizona Oregon figures list Roosevelt and Hoover as top names with varying vote counts across counties.
Greece failed to meet its December payment to the United States delaying $227,000 in principal and $217,920 in interest while Hungary reported inability to pay $12,285 principal and $28,444 interest. Britain sought discussions with the United States on debt terms.
Rep. Henry T. Rainey of Illinois, a white haired Democrat, is slated to become speaker when Vice President-elect Garner moves to preside over the Senate. Rainey was elected for his fourteenth term and advanced to the speaker's chair as Congress prepares a short session starting in December.
Hoover narrowed Franklin D. Roosevelt's national lead in late tabulations. The latest United Press figures showed Roosevelt ahead by about six million votes, with Roosevelt at 20,220,37 and Hoover at 14,390,593, and Thomas at 483,762.
Emmetsburg Iowa April AP report claimed Sheriff Lee Shea died by suicide. Shea said he is very much alive. Deputy Sheriff R J Tilton’s funeral services are scheduled for Friday afternoon as AP regrets the error.
The Rev. Dr. Harry Malcolm Chalfant, a founder of the Anti Saloon League, died of pneumonia in a Washington hospital Thursday at age 64.
