J F Van Hoe Arrested on Robbery Charge

Joseph F Van Hoe aged 20 of 1417 Thirty-eighth street SE was arrested Thursday at 6 30 on a charge of robbery with aggravation in connection with a November 3 break in at Floyd Knupp home 405 Twentieth street NE. The Knupps identified him as the intruder with a shotgun who took between 18 and 20 dollars. He was charged in a county attorney True Information and arraigned before District Judge Ansel Chapman with bond set at 10 000. held in Linn county jail and also held for parole violation.

Body and Lifeboat Found After Keo Shipwreck

An unidentified body and an empty motor lifeboat named Keo were recovered Thursday night about 40 miles southeast of the Keo wreck site. The 629 foot Liberian tanker Keo broke apart in a storm with 36 men aboard, and the coast guard continued the search for survivors off Nantucket, noting that any found would likely be in lifeboats or rafts.

Congress Given Notes On Nixon Speech Poll

1000th School Started In Peace Corps Program

Judge Denies Joint Trial for Wolf Rape and Sodomy Cases

Linn district court judge Ansel Chapman denied a bid to try Richard D. Wolf of Selma Alabama on both rape and sodomy charges at once. Defense counsel Lloyd Humphreys pressed to delay the sodomy trial set for November 17 and to reorder so the rape case would be heard first, arguing the jury could be prejudiced if Wolf testified and the state linked the two alleged incidents. The judge indicated a likely separate path for the sodomy trial but left the rape case date intact for December 15.

UCS Campaign Extends as 98 Percent Reached in 1970 Drive

The 1970 United Community Services campaign stood at 98 percent of its $1,050,000 target with pledges and donations of $1,029,000 at a YMCA meeting. Chairman Henry Madden announced a one-week extension, citing $5,000 shortfall possible by back calls and a boost from a major firm adding $800 after a Gazette feature. Ames Man Dead In Car Crash

MT VERNON an elderly Ames man was killed in a one car accident Thursday around noon about two miles north of here on highway 1. Mark Dorothy 77 was traveling north alone when his car went off the road and rolled over. He was dead on arrival at a Cedar Rapids hospital.
