Poongsan Corp plans to open a 525000 square foot brass and copper mill in the former Harnischfeger site in southwest Cedar Rapids. The remodel, including a casting shop and new induction furnaces, will take about two years with initial construction starting next spring as engineers digitize the building to prepare for rolling mills and related facilities.
City officials and economic leaders forecast a wide ripple effect from PMX Industries. Mayor Don Canney says for each direct job nine more will be created locally, totaling about 6,300 new positions, with additional ripple effects from nearby suppliers and new firms drawn to the area.

The agency says it did minimal checks and did not target librarians broadly. The Library Awareness Program focused on technical libraries in the New York area amid suspicions of Soviet data mining.
President Bush confirms in an interview he would absolutely keep Vice President Dan Quayle on the 1992 Republican ticket. Quayle aides say the move signals support while critics question his readiness to assume the presidency amid Soviet policy debates.
