Poongsan Corp of Seoul selects Cedar Rapids for its first North American copper and brass mill to be named PMX Industries. PMX Industries promises a clean and environmentally safe Cedar Rapids facility with an estimated 20 million dollars in equipment to meet air and water standards. VP Pat Mentone says electric arc furnaces will be enclosed and fumes minimal and non-toxic. The plant will recycle copper and zinc and operate its own wastewater treatment before discharging to the city sewer system. George Milligan of the Cedar Rapids Waste Water Treatment Facility endorses the plan.
