Pets saved as Cedar Rapids house fire hits kitchen
Tammy and John Peters watched flames rise from the Severide home kitchen at 306 E Ave NW as 16 year old Kelsey and 12 year old Garrett arrived. Firefighters confined the blaze to the kitchen with heavy smoke damage. Ferdinand the cat was found uninjured and returned to the family. Firefighters have not yet determined a cause. The house is insured and Karen Severide recently bought a Lisbon home.

Betty Harris 34 of 1541 Fifth Ave SE was charged with first degree burglary for allegedly breaking into a residence at 531 12th St SE and assaulting Ronald Sage. Sage restrained her until police arrived. Harris remained in Linn County Jail on 25000 cash bail. Sage had minor injuries.
