Dubuque Man Admits Killing Girlfriend in Stabbing Case
Herbert J. Schnee 42 of Dubuque confessed to police Tuesday afternoon that he killed Sharon Kieffer 35 also of Dubuque. Kieffer's body was found at 2321 Washington St after Schnee guided investigators to the scene. Coroner cited beating and strangulation as the cause. Schnee is held on 500000 bond ahead of a bond review.

Autopsies Ordered For Iowa Navy Crewmen
The Navy said autopsies will be performed on two Iowans Roy Johnston 28 of Eddyville and Rick Teichert 25 of Callendar plus four other Ranger crewmen killed in a fire in a machinery room aboard the aircraft carrier Ranger in the Arabian Sea.

Caldwell freed without bond in coed's death
Benjamin Caldwell, charged with second degree murder in the death of his fiance Ellen Egan, was released from Johnson County Jail without bond by Judge John Sladek. He may not travel outside Johnson County except for work. Egan, a University of Iowa student, died from head injuries after living with Caldwell in Coralville.
