Two Nobel Awards to Americans in physics and chemistry
The 1960 Nobel prizes in physics and chemistry went to three U S scientists working in California. Robert Hofstadter of Stanford and Rudolf Mössbauer of Munich, now at Caltech, shared the physics prize with Martin. Melvin Calvin of the University of California won the chemistry prize for research on photosynthesis and carbon assimilation.
